Note: Try the new layout today! This will become the default view on October 25, 2026.
Overview
Based on feedback from users, ZenGRC has improved the way that Objects are viewed on the platform. Administrators now have more control over the way that information is portrayed in each ZenGRC Object (eg, Assessments, Risks, Controls). This document is intended to share the difference between the existing and updated interface of Objects (except Audits, which have their own changes detailed here).
Note: The new Object page is opt-in per user at first. The old page stays the default, and each user can try the new one with the Swap Icon (Arrow 1).
Existing Interface
In the existing interface, users could view information across tabs within each Object. The image below shows the Object Assessments, with Box A highlighting the information tabs within the Assessments Object (eg, Details, Mapped Objects, Comments, History, Attachments).
Updated Interface
In the new interface, the data for an Object now sits together on one scrollable, Card-based page with a Header (Box A), a Main Column (Box B) and a Side Rail (Box C).
Customizing the Updated Interface
Administrators can now customize the view for each Object, and can even show a different arrangement depending on an Object’s workflow status:
Navigate to the Left Hand Navigation (LHN) and click on the Settings icon
Under the Settings menu, select System Settings
While in System Settings, Administrators should select Object Page Layout
Under Object Page Layout, choose the Object Type that is to be customized (eg, Assessments)
From here, Administrators can rearrange, add or remove cards from the Object view for their users. After updating the Object view, Administrators should click on Save, review the preview showing the updated view, then click Save again.
Below is the updated Object view based on the changes made in the example above. The Main Column (Box A) now leads with Attachments. The Side Rail now includes a custom text Card (Box B) and dividers (Box C) that were added in the example above.
Object View Based On Object Status
Object information is sometimes more relevant depending upon the status of the Object. Administrators now also have the ability to create Object views based on the status of the Object.
While in Object Page Layout, select + Add View
In the Add a focused view window, select the relevant statuses for the view (Arrow 2a) then select + Create View (Arrow 2b)
The windows below show the comparison of the Default view (Box A, on the left) with the Completed view (Box B, on the right), first from the Object Page Layout that the Administrator will see when customizing, then from view of the user while in the Assessments Object.

User View
Reminder: The new Object page is opt-in per user at first. The existing page stays the default, and each user can try the new page using the Swap Icon (Arrow 1). If users prefer the existing view, they can select the Swap Icon to revert back.
Additional notes regarding the New Object Interface Customization feature:
Layouts are per organization. Every user in the tenant sees the same page. Changes are admin-only and recorded with who made them.
Layouts exist only in the new view. Customizations are not shown if a user switches to the old page.
Layouts can differ by workflow status

Feature Table: Existing vs Updated Object View
Area | Existing | Updated |
Record layout | Separate tabs for Details, Mapped Objects, Comments, History and Attachments | One page of cards: details, custom attributes, mapped objects, attachments, comments, history |
Customization | One fixed layout for every organization | Admins choose which cards appear, their order, and whether each sits in the main column or the side rail, including custom cards and dividers |
Layout by status | Not available | A focused view per workflow status (eg, evidence cards show while a Request is Open) |
Editing | Modal dialogs for most fields | Inline editing: hover a field to edit, or click "+ Add" on an empty one |
Moving between records | Back to the list, then open the next record | Open a record from a filtered list and step through the result set with Prev / Next |
Linking | Links land on the record, then you find the tab | Deep links to a specific card, for example straight to Comments from a mention email |
